Rabindranath was born on May 7, 1861 in the Jorasanko mansion in Kolkata. Various cultural programmes and discussions were held to observe the death anniversary of the great poet who gave both Bangladesh and India their national anthem.
Myriad minded Tagore was the most celebrated Bangla poet, playwright, novelist and composer, philosopher and essayist whose works redefined Bangla literature and music in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Rabindranath passed away on 22 Shraban in 1348 after long illness at Jorasanko mansion in Kolkata.
Rabindranath was awarded the Nobel Prize in literature in 1913 for the English version of his book Gitanjali.
